The Ballistic Products MG410 Shotshell Wad is a relatively short-length wad overall. This makes it an ideal wad for light loads in 2-1/2″ length. It can also be used with great success in the 3″ with heavier loads – up to 11/16 ounce.? The reloader may find that all the shot for the load will not fit into the shotcup. This is by design. The MG410 has a longer cup than some .410 wads. The MG410 allows a percentage of the shot load to be held within the cup. A portion of the shot is not protected by the cup in order to create fringe-ring pattern development.??Selecting the correct wad is one important element for controlling shot pattern. Wads are also essential for shotshell reloading. They fill extra space in the hull to make sure there is no room for the shot and powder to move around. They also act as a barrier between the powder and shot charges to ensure proper powder ignition, protect the shot from hot gasses and seal gasses behind the shot so that it can be propelled down the barrel. The wad also acts as a dual barrier to protect the barrel from becoming damaged by hard shot and to protect soft shot from becoming deformed by contact with hard barrel steel.
